[Project] A 72-hole park golf course ends its watering war with AoT

Park golf — pick up a single club, walk out and enjoy a round with the neighbours — has taken hold across our cities as a everyday sport, loved above all by older players. But the more people come, the deeper the worry gets for the people running the facilities. The reason is turf: the lifeblood of a park golf course.

🌿 More turf every year, and still watered by hand?

Turf is a living thing. It needs the right amount of water and time to rest. When hot, dry weather settles in, whole management teams get pulled in just to water the course.

Many park golf courses have sprinklers under the ground, but the practical limits are obvious. Some were built in a hurry without enough capacity; others have the equipment but not the water.

  • Not enough coverage: there is nowhere near enough watering equipment to wet the whole area.
  • Hard to operate: control has to be broken down zone by zone, and opening and closing valves by hand makes covering every section thoroughly all but impossible.

The smart automatic irrigation system AoT proposed

AoT built a system fitted to the site to solve exactly these problems.

  • A precise site survey: we analysed how much water the course could supply and what equipment was already there.
  • Efficient zoning: we subdivided the large area on the basis of data, to get the most out of every litre.
  • Remote & automatic control: staff no longer go hunting for valves. Watering runs remotely from a phone or PC, or automatically on a set schedule.

How the course looks now

After the AoT system went in, the change on the ground was striking.

  • Far more efficient work: watering happens in the early hours before staff even arrive, so their working day is more focused.
  • Lower labour cost and effort: released from the grind of adjusting valves one by one, a small team now manages a large area completely.
  • Healthier turf: watered exactly as much as needed, exactly when needed, the turf grows greener and healthier than before.

AoT spreading to more park golf courses

Courses in other regions that struggled with small permanent staffs have now decided to adopt the AoT system too. Add the technology and the manager's burden falls while the public's enjoyment doubles.

If turf management is keeping you up at night, the answer may be AoT's smart irrigation solution.
